The first major milestone was set back in 2016 during a panel discussion at Bitkom—a discussion about existing roles and challenges in the software industry. Based on the observation that there was a lack of designers in the software industry who were able to take overall responsibility for a digital solution, including its analog (physical) components, the idea of a new job description was born.
To develop the DDP certification, the DDP working group collaborated with a global network of experts from IT, product and industrial design, and software engineering. The DDP certification is based on Bitkom's Digital Design Manifesto.
The DDP certification was developed to bridge the gap between technology, user needs, and business strategies. The certificate was developed to provide a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Digital Design—from technical architecture and UX to the consideration of sustainability and ethics.
In February 2021, the time had come: the DDP certification was launched.
